LSF has a small staff, and we rely on the generosity of our volunteers to help us be in a lot of places, doing a lot of things, all at the same time. Trying to accomplish such big things sometimes brings challenges. But one person we know we can always count on to roll up her sleeves and work hard to rescue us is Dionne Ward.
Dionne was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She earned a degree in Radio, Television and Film from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. After a few years in the Country Music industry, Dionne came home to Texas where she joined the Mortgage Industry. Dionne’s career in the Mortgage industry is somewhat a family affair. She followed in her father’s footsteps, who worked in the industry for 40+ years. She has worked in the industry for 25+ years, and even met her husband, Keith, on the job. Currently, they live in Cypress with their son Joel.
After attending an industry conference (Texas Mortgage Banker Association) in 2015 where Chad Fleming and Marcus Luttrell were the featured speakers, Dionne felt their messages light a fire inside of her. She was inspired to take action, to get involved, to show her thanks and give her time to those who have served. After researching what avenues were available for her and her family to give back, she was lucky to find the Lone Survivor Foundation, located in Houston, had opportunities for volunteering. The 3 of them are committed to giving back, especially to those who serve our country, and make our freedom.
Dionne finds that the employees and volunteers are so committed, and with their actions and attitudes, they continue to inspire her at every event and meeting she attends. One of the joys she has at Lone Survivor event is to hear them tell their stories and how they support and express the purpose of Lone Survivor Foundation. She has been able to volunteer at several events – golf tournaments, food truck rally, Biker rally in Galveston, Boxing match, 2016 Houston Gala, and the fishing tournament, and has found each one is special. One of her favorite aspects of volunteering for Lone Survivor is to educate people about the mission.
Dionne holds the team at Lone Survivor Foundation close to her heart, and cannot begin to express the honor she feels to be a part of the organization, the esteem she feels for the volunteers and staff, and the respect for the veterans she serves. She is blessed beyond belief to be a part of this organization.
